Nelly Furtado![]() Nelly Furtado who was born on December 2, 1978 is a Portuguese-Canadian singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and record producer. Show more » Furtado gained stardom in 2000 with the release of her debut album Whoa, Nelly!, which featured the Grammy Award-winning single "I'm Like a Bird" and "Turn Off the Light". After giving birth to daughter Nevis and releasing the less commercially successful Folklore 2003, she returned to prominence in 2006 with the release of Loose and its hit singles, "Promiscuous" , "Maneater", All Good Things, and "Say It Right", among others. Furtado is known for her musical eclecticism, continually experimenting with different instruments, sounds, genres, languages, and vocal styles. This diversity has been influenced by her wide-ranging musical taste and her interest in different cultures. Her third album, Loose, was released on 20th June 2006 In the U.S and 12th June 2006 Worldwide. The Spanish dance track "No Hay Igual" was released as the album's first single on 11th April 2006, followed by "Promiscuous", featuring Timbaland, only two weeks later on 25th April 2006. "Promiscuous" is currently at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Nelly's first US chart topper. "Promiscuous" also topped iTunes Top 100 in the US and Canada and peaked at No. 1 in the Canadian Singles Chart. "Say it Right" later became her second song to top the iTunes Hot 100, replacing the song "Irreplaceable" from it's number one spot. In January 2007, several news sources reported that the producer Timbaland was alleged to have plagiarized several elements both motifs and samples in the song "Do It" on the 2006 album Loose by Nelly Furtado without giving credit or compensation. In Europe, "Maneater" was the first single off the album. In the UK, "Maneater" remained at Number 1 in the Official UK Top 40 for 3 weeks. The album, mostly produced by Timbaland and his production partner Danjahandz, will include songs such as "Maneater", as well as "All Good Things Come To An End", a collaboration with Coldplay's Chris Martin. The album also features a duet with Juanes on the track titled "Te Busque," for which there are two versions, a spanish and english version. Furtado had previously collaborated with Juanes on the songs "Powerless" and "Fotografia." Among her most successful songs are her debut single "I'm Like A Bird", for which she won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2002, "Turn off the Light", which reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance MusicClub Play chart, and "Fora", the official anthem of the 2004 European Football Championship.
