 Tenacious D sometimes referred to as "The D" and often introduced as "The Greatest Band in the world. Period." is a rock band comprising musician-actors Kyle Gass aka "KG", aka "Rage Kage" and Jack Black aka "JB", aka "Jables". They are known for their upbeat classic rock style, infused with comedy. The band first gained reputation in 1999, starring in a self-titled HBO TV series. The drumming on both of their albums was performed by Dave Grohl of Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age fame. Show more » Jack Black met the 24-year-old Kyle Gass when he was 16 in Los Angeles in 1985 when they were members of the "The Actors' Gang" theatre troupe. Gass taught Black to play the guitar, and they eventually formed the band. Kyle Gass has a side project entitled "Trainwreck". Tenacious D can briefly be seen in the 1996 film 'Biodome'. Tenacious D has released two albums as well as the Tenacious D Complete Masterworks DVD, which contains the six 15-minute HBO episodes and an entire concert in London. It also contains several music videos. The Tenacious D movie known as 'Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny' was released on Wednesday, November 22nd 2006. With the new movie they have released a new soundtrack and a music video for the featured song entitled 'The Pick Of Destiny'. Several of the songs on The Pick of Destiny, including 'History' and 'Baby' are more polished re-recordings of material from the HBO show era. Their most notable song so far is Tribute. The ending of 'Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny subtly references the song, with Kage and Jables sitting around a tape recorder, attempting to remember the song that they used hours earlier to defeat the devil played by Dave Grohl, in both the film and the 'Tribute' video. The viewer is meant to infer that 'Tribute' was the result of that recording session at the end of the film. Tenacious D will be featured in the highly anticipated video game "Guitar Hero III". 'The Metal' is prominently featured in the game's trailer released at e3 2007.
